Glee Club to perform end-of-season concert before tour
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's Varsity Glee Club will be "Celebrating a Magnificent Year in Song" on Saturday (May 14), three days before the group leaves for a tour of England, Scotland and Ireland.
"This year's show will feature special lighting, sound and video effects, as well as choreography and guest appearances by other local performers," said Purdue Musical Organizations director Brian Breed. "PMO wants to provide a high-quality show on par with our annual Christmas Show to celebrate the end of the 2004-2005 season."
The concert, sponsored by InnerVision and Unity Healthcare, will start at 8:30 p.m. in Loeb Playhouse. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for students, plus a $1 processing fee. Tickets can be purchased at Purdue box offices located in Stewart Center and Elliott Hall of Music or by calling (765) 494-3933.
The Glee Club will be performing tunes from their repertoire for the upcoming tour, including "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" and the Welsh standard "Morte Criste."
Megan and Morgan VonDielingen, the Silver Twins in Purdue's "All-American" Marching Band, will be performing Irish dance.
The concert will kick off the Glee Club's May 17-31 tour of England, Scotland and Ireland. More than 70 Purdue alumni and friends will travel with the group, who will have high tea in England, play golf in Scotland and hear a storyteller in Ireland.
The Glee Club will perform concerts in Birmingham Town Hall in Birmingham, England; Holy Trinity Church in St. Andrews, Scotland; Glasgow Cathedral in Glasgow, Scotland; and Hotel Europe in Fossa, Killarney, Ireland.
