Guster to perform April 20 at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The three-piece band Guster will make its second Purdue University appearance when it takes the Elliott Hall of Music stage at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20.

Guster, which played at Purdue last March as the opening act for John Mayer, is being presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee.

The band's beginnings are rooted at Tufts University, where band members Ryan Miller, Brian Rosenworcel and Adam Gardner met during freshman orientation in 1991. After a year of writing songs and playing in their dorm rooms, the group officially named themselves "Gus" and started booking small shows on campus.

In 1993 the trio recorded its first demo tape, and in 1994 recorded its first CD, "Parachute," under the direction of producer Mike Denneen. After graduating from Tufts in 1995, the group continued to write and perform. Guster's second CD, "Goldfly," was recorded in 1996 and led to a contract with Sire Records in 1998. Since then, Guster has re-released "Goldfly" and recorded three additional CDs, including "Lost and Gone Forever," "Keep it Together" and a limited-edition UK release called "Come Downstairs and Say Hello."

Tickets for the Purdue concert are $25.50, which includes facilities fees. Tickets go on sale Tuesday (March 8) at campus box offices and all Ticketmaster outlets. Campus box offices can be reached by calling (800) 914-SHOW.
