Purdue to survey students, faculty on academic integrity

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University students and faculty are being asked to participate in a Web-based survey to help assess academic integrity on campus, including topics such as cheating and plagiarizing.

The Academic Integrity Survey is supplied by the Center for Academic Integrity, which is affiliated with the Kenan Institute for Ethics at Duke University in Durham, N.C. It is a tool that helps academic institutions assess and improve the climate for academic integrity, said Heather Webb, student affairs specialist in the Office of the Dean of Students.

"We are looking forward to the possibility of new initiatives as a result of this survey," Webb said. "Because this process is very important to maintaining the strength of the Purdue degree, we expect a strong response from students and faculty."

Faculty and students will receive an e-mail on Monday (Feb. 14) asking them to complete the form and point them to the Web site that contains the questionnaire, which should take 10-15 minutes to complete, Webb said. The site will remain active for two weeks.

"Not only will we be able to evaluate the data from Purdue, but we also will have an opportunity to compare Purdue to data in a national databank of responses that have been collected through the same instrument at other institutions," Webb said.

Questionnaires for specific groups can be found at the following sites:
