Band O.A.R. to perform March 31 at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The five-piece band O.A.R, with openers Ari Hest and Stephen Kellogg, will perform in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.

Of a Revolution, O.A.R., came together when its members were juniors in high school. Its first album, "Wanderer," was released in 1997. While the group did not have a record label or marketing plan, O.A.R.'s popularity grew rapidly in 2000 when fans in its home region of Washington, D.C., began file sharing and promoting the group through the Internet. In August O.A.R. released its sixth album, "34th & 8th."

The group's sound comes from its members' varied musical tastes, ranging from Metallica to Pearl Jam to Bob Marley. The Boston Globe described the sounds as "an exuberant blend of reggae-rock, funk, and jazz-pop."

O.A.R.'s Purdue appearance is presented by Purdue Student Concert Committee and Jam Productions.

Tickets are $26.50, which includes facilities fees. Campus ticket sales begin Wednesday (Feb. 9) at campus box offices. General public ticket sales begin Friday (Feb. 11) at campus box offices and all Ticketmaster outlets.
