January 20, 2005 '42nd Street' coming to Elliott Hall of MusicWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue Convocations will present the Broadway musical "42nd Street" at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 27) in the Elliott Hall of Music. Winner of the 1980 Tony Award for Best New Musical and the 2001 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, "42nd Street" opened in Tokyo last summer for a five-week engagement and is now on an extensive North American tour that began in Huntsville, Ala., in October. The original Broadway production of "42nd Street" ran for more than eight years and is one of the 10 longest-running shows in Broadway history. The Broadway revival opened in May 2001 at the Ford Theatre and remains the focus of attention on 42nd Street in New York. Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble wrote the script (based on the novel by Bradford Ropes), Harry Warren wrote the music and Al Dubin wrote the lyrics for the musical's 1980 stage premier. The original Broadway production was directed and choreographed by Gower Champion, while the Broadway revival was directed by Mark Bramble and choreographed by Randy Skinner, who served as associate choreographer for the original Broadway production. The tour will showcase the direction and choreography of Mark Bramble and Randy Skinner, respectively. The touring production of "42nd Street" is produced by Big League Theatricals Inc. Tickets for "42nd Street" range in price from $21 to $30 for students and children, and $30 to $44 for the general public.
