Outkast's Big Boi to perform Oct. 30 at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Hip-hop artist Big Boi, with special opening act Scar, will perform at Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.

Big Boi, who along with Andre 3000 make up the hip-hop duo Outkast, is making his first solo tour. His Purdue appearance is presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee and radio station The New B102.9, with support from Bob Rohrman Scion.

At last week's World Music Awards, Outkast was recognized as the World's Best Group, Best Pop Group and Best Pop/Hip-Hop Artist. During the Video Music Awards in August, Outkast walked away with awards for Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Special Effects and Best Art Direction.

Outkast's most recent release, "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below," is the group's ninth CD and features solo works by each artist. The album has spent 45 weeks on Billboard's Top Albums chart, peaking at No. 1.

Tickets for Big Boi's Oct. 30 show are $35, which includes a $1 facilities fee.

Campus ticket sales begin Tuesday (Sept. 28). Purdue students, staff and faculty can participate in a lottery between 8 a.m. Friday (Sept. 24) and 10 a.m. Monday (Sept. 27). Students may sign up for the lottery on the SSINFO Web site, and staff and faculty should visit Purdue Convocation's Web site. Purchase times will be assigned and posted by 4 p.m. Monday (Sept. 27). General public ticket sales begin Wednesday (Sept. 29) at campus box offices and all Ticketmaster outlets.
