Sitar player Ravi Shankar to perform at Purdue on Sunday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Convocations will present Indian sitar player and composer Ravi Shankar at Purdue University’s Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26.

Shankar’s career has spanned more than four decades. His performances include appearances at legendary events, including the Monterey Pop Festival, the Concert for Bangla Desh, and Woodstock. Shankar is also an accomplished composer, writing for both sitar and orchestra.

Shankar has been honored by institutions from around the globe including 14 honorary doctorates, the Padma Vibhushan, Desikottam, the Magsaysay Award from Manila, two Grammys, the Fukuoka Grand Prize from Japan and the Crystal Award from Davos.

The late George Harrison called Shankar "the godfather of world music."

Tickets are $36 for general public and $22 for students. Tickets are available at campus box offices at (765) 494-3933 and Ticketmaster outlets.
