"The Purdue Golden Girl has long been recognized as one of the most talented performers in the nation, and Christy certainly confirmed that high standard," said Alisha Kuckartz, Purdue auxiliary director. "Christy performed extremely well. It was great to hear 'Hail Purdue' as Christy performed as an ambassador for the university and the band department."

The competition was open to featured performers from colleges and universities across the country. A total of 41 collegiate twirlers performed to their own school music at the event, which was part of the National Baton Twirling Association's four-day national competition last month at Notre Dame University.

Hope Carrell, University of Georgia, placed first, with second place going to Kelly Montgomery, Southern Methodist University, third place to Brittany Brown, University of West Virginia, and fifth place to Diana Reed, University of Iowa.

In other events at the same competition, Stallings topped all twirlers to become the national two-baton champion and the national three-baton champion.

Stallings' twirling talents will be showcased throughout the Boilermakers home football season. A special 50th anniversary salute to the Golden Girls will take place during Purdue Homecoming on Oct. 16.
