Ag Alumni Association offers trip to Purdue vs. Illinois football game

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue University Agricultural Alumni Association is sponsoring a trip on Sept. 25 to the Purdue football game against the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill.

The all-day excursion includes round-trip bus transportation, a pregame lunch and activities, and tickets to the game. Those riding on the bus also may purchase dinner at the Beef House in Covington, Ind., on the way back to West Lafayette.

"This game happens to be Illinois' Salute to Agriculture Day," said Donya Lester, executive secretary of the Purdue Ag Alumni Association. "We plan to have great fellowship, good food and fun as we fire up to beat the Illini on their home field."

Activities will begin approximately two hours prior to the scheduled 11 a.m. kick off. The Salute to Agriculture activities and lunch will be located in a tent on the northwest corner of Kirby Ave. and First Street, which is one block west of Memorial Stadium. Slated events include:

• The Salute to Agriculture Day program with WGN Radio's Orion Samuelson and Purdue alumnus Max Armstrong.

• Lunch with Purdue faculty and staff, including Randy Woodson, interim dean of Purdue's School of Agriculture.

• A chance to meet former Boilermakers Bruce Weber, now head coach of the Illini men's basketball team, and Jay Price, Illini assistant coach.

• A silent auction featuring bushel baskets of goods donated by commodity organizations.

• Recognition of 4-H Alumni Award winners and the Illinois Farm Family of the Year.

The registration deadline is Sept. 10. Departure time is tentatively set for 7 a.m., but may change based on the number of travelers and any change in kick-off time.

Price of the trip package will vary depending on football ticket and lunch choices. Game ticket prices are $29 and $17. Lunch prices are $8 and $5. The bus transportation is $20. Those planning to drive on their own may purchase just the football and/or lunch tickets. The cost of dinner is not included in the package.
