July 9, 2004 George Carlin to perform at Purdue UniversityWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Comedian George Carlin will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music. Special guest Dennis Blair will open for Carlin's performance, which is being presented by Purdue Convocations and Purdue Student Concert Committee. Carlin began his comedy career in radio in 1959 while working for a Fort Worth, Texas, radio station. Carlin and another radio personality, Jack Burns, began developing comedy routines. After splitting from Burns in 1962, Carlin performed in nightclubs around the country before landing at Café au Go Go in Greenwich Village. It was here that he perfected his style and began getting television exposure. Since then Carlin has earned six CableACE awards and five Emmy nominations. Comedy Central recently ranked him second on its list of 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time. Comedian Dennis Blair describes his own style as "music blended with standup comedy." Blair has opened for comedians including Rodney Dangerfield, Joan Rivers, Garry Shandling, Tom Jones and now tours regularly with Carlin. All tickets are $28.50 for Purdue students and $33.50 for general public. Tickets are available at campus box offices beginning Aug. 5 for Purdue students, faculty and staff. General public sales begin Aug. 6 at campus box offices and Ticketmaster outlets.
