June 24, 2004 Cooperative Education Program participants selectedWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Seventeen civil engineering students in the upper half of their freshman class were chosen to participate in Purdue University's Cooperative Education Program, a five-year professional development program conducted in partnership with a group of businesses and corporations. The program combines practical on-the-job experiences with the classroom training of a four-year university curriculum. Participating students learn to integrate theory and practice, confirm career choices, investigate potential job opportunities and become better graduates. The program's objectives are to give students the best possible education by combining academic and professional work experiences and give students, employers and the university the opportunity to develop mutually beneficial working relationships.
