April 27, 2004 Purdue Theatre graduate students to preview New York showcaseWEST LAFAYETTE Purdue Theatre's graduate student actors will give the public a chance to preview a showcase that will be presented on May 10 to New York City casting directors and agents.
The public performance will be at 8 p.m. May 7 in the Stewart Center Experimental Theatre. Admission is free, however, donations to offset the costs for the New York City trip will be accepted. Nine candidates for master's degrees in fine arts along with Purdue Theatre chairman Russ Jones, acting program head Kristine Holtvedt and theater professor Richard Stockton Rand will travel to New York City to present the showcase. Actors from Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park also will perform. Purdue students performing are: Vanessa Buono, of Baltimore; Jeremy Clark, of Great Falls, Mont.; Brian Edgecomb, of Bella Glade, Fla.; Carla Harris, of Longview, Texas; Jim Harris, of Conway, Ark.; Dave Levine, of New Haven, Conn.; Erin Reitz, of Lincoln, Neb.; Anita Ross, of Howe, Ind.; and Megan Mary Ryan, of Madison, Wis. During the preview and showcase, the actors will perform scenes from a variety of shows, including "Born Yesterday," "Extremities" and "Hurley Burley." The New York City showcase is designed to give students the opportunity to perform for agents and casting directors in the hope the actors will be called back for roles in television, film or theater. Purdue Theatre is a member of the University/Resident Theatre Association and the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
