Cirque Éloize brings 'Nomade' to Elliott Hall

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Canadian-based company Cirque Éloize will present its latest creation, "Nomade," at 8 p.m. Friday (4/2) in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music.

In "Nomade," Cirque Éloize features circus artists from around the globe. The cast will use song, dance, juggling and acrobatic feats set in a nighttime carnival, to tell the story of two gypsy bands traveling to a wedding. The company's Web site explains the performance: "Nomadism is a state of mind. It's a journey through memories and dreams. As we follow the trail of our inner thoughts, we encounter vestiges of our past and indulge in wild flights of fancy. The members of Cirque Éloize are modern-day nomads. As they wander the globe, they forge new friendships, showcase their talents, and celebrate the here and now."

The "L.A. Times" wrote, "The cast of artists becomes one as it juggles dozens of flying pins, forms intricate sculptures in remarkable hand-to-hand balancing acts or collectively holds its breath as petite Ewelina Fijotek climbs up to execute a handstand on a precariously tall stack of chairs. By the end, you feel like you know them all. People like you – just a little more flexible."

Several artists from the Magdalen Islands founded Cirque Éloize in 1993. The company and its artists are committed to the advancement of circus arts around the world, believing that circus stirs human emotions and moves people. Cirque Éloize has given more than 1,400 performances in more than 200 cities and 20 countries around the world.

Tickets are $18-$28 for students and $30-$42 for general public. Ticket price includes a $1 service fee. Tickets are on sale now at any campus box office by calling (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW or at any Ticketmaster outlet.
