Hillel group sponsors discussion on Jewish, Christian identity

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Hillel Graduates and Professionals at Purdue University will sponsor "How Wide a Tent: Jews & Christians/Siblings-Cousins-Kin?" by Rabbi Steven M. Leapman on Wednesday (2/18).

Leapman will examine the aspects of identity stemming from biblical religions, their traditions and perceived destinies. He also will review a document written by five Jewish scholars illustrating a Jewish theology of Christianity and examine specific prayers that underscore the concept that how people worship defines the personality of their faith.

Leapman, a former Navy chaplain now serving as rabbi for Temple Beth-El, South Bend's reform synagogue, has an extensive interfaith and counseling background and serves on the Central Conference of American Rabbis Task Force on Recovery and Addictions. In addition to his religious education, he holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in literature from American University.

The talk, which is free and open to the public, will start at 5 p.m. at Hillel Foundation, 912 W. State St. Parking is available at the University Street garage two blocks north of the Hillel Foundation. For information, call (765) 743-1293.
