New Purdue students invited to Winter WelcomeWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Registrations are being accepted for Winter Welcome, a free orientation program designed to ease the transition to Purdue for all transfer and first-year students. The program, sponsored by the Office of Admissions, will be Sunday, Jan. 6, from 1-6:30 p.m. in the East-West Faculty Lounge of the Purdue Memorial Union. It features a student panel presentation on campus life and a campus tour. The University Resource Fair, featuring representatives from several campus offices, also will be in Stewart Center, Room 218. In addition, students will be provided an opportunity to obtain ID cards, set up computer accounts and access class schedules. Shawna Lusk, assistant director of admissions and assistant coordinator of Boiler Gold Rush, says the program is an ideal way for new students to become more familiar with Purdue. "We really want to try to shrink this big campus down for students who are new," Lusk says. "It can be a little bit overwhelming when classes start with more than 35,000 students. We want to make them feel more comfortable and confident as they launch their academic career at Purdue." Prospective students can register online at https://www.purdue.edu/admissions. Registration material also is available through the Office of Admissions at 1080 Helen B. Schleman Hall, West Lafayette, Ind. 47907-1080. Questions about the program can be e-mailed to winterwelcome@purdue.edu. Winter Welcome is funded by the Purdue University Lilly Endowment Retention Initiatives.
