Registrar Joy Garton Krueger says participants and spectators are likely to notice the increased security presence during ceremonies in the Elliott Hall of Music, with all bags subject to search. "We are encouraging the public to arrive early and travel light," Krueger said. "If you don't have to carry a bag into the hall, please don't." The doors to Elliott Hall will be open 90 minutes prior to the start of both ceremonies so that family and friends have plenty of time to be seated before commencement gets under way. At Calumet, 546 winter candidates and 149 summer graduates are eligible to participate in the ceremony. Chancellor Howard Cohen will give an address and the student response will be presented by Karen Lynn Nagel of Lowell, Ind., who will receive a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Writer: Sharon A.
