WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University recently held an intensive overnight program to train 150 students as future leaders.

The emerging sophomore leaders participated in the 11th annual Emily Mauzy Vogel Sophomore Leadership Development Conference at Camp Tecumseh in Brookston, Ind. The conference, developed by the Office of the Dean of Students, trains students in team building, personal development, leadership development, networking and diversity awareness. Darrel Cecil, president of DisABILITY Resources Consulting, served as the keynote speaker.

At the conclusion of the conference, four participants received Emily Mauzy Emerging Leader Awards, in recognition of their campus, community and conference contributions. They are Lori Snyder of Worthington, Ohio, Jonathan Fulkerson of Lafayette, Ind., Kate Eid of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Sarah Cusick of Lima, Ohio. Each student received $250.

Outstanding juniors who attended the conference the previous year also were honored for their scholarship and service to Purdue. Robert L.
