Israeli pianist Alon Goldstein coming to PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Classical pianist Alon Goldstein will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Fowler Hall. Admission is $9. Tickets can be purchased at Purdue box offices or charged by phone at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW. Goldstein is presented by Purdue Convocations as part of its Discovery Series. The Israeli-born Goldstein has been playing the piano since age 7. In 1993, he received a scholarship to study with Leon Fleisher for four years at the Peabody Conservatory of Music. While there he served as Fleisher's assistant, an honor reserved for exceptional students. Goldstein currently attends the International Piano Foundation, Theo Liven, in northern Italy. He is one of only eight young pianists from around the world invited to participate in this acclaimed residence. As a foundation member, Goldstein is able to enjoy private master classes with such teachers as Fleisher, Claude Frank and Dmitri Bashkirev. Under the baton of Zubin Mehta, Goldstein has performed Rachmaninovs "Piano Concerto #1" with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra. He has played with the Jerusalem Symphony under maestros Mendi Rodan and David Shallon. Goldstein regularly performs on Israeli radio and television, including concerts in the Tel Aviv Museum and the Henry Crown Symphony Hall in Jerusalem. In England, he has been heard on BBC Radios "Young Artists Forum." His Fowler Hall performance will include "In the Mist" by Leos Janacek, "Sonata #3 in f minor, opus 5" by Johannes Brahms and four preludes by Claude Debussy.
