Purdue students to donate 'locks of love'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue students can lop off their locks for a good cause next week.

Stylists from the West Lafayette salon The Hairman will give free haircuts to students who allow them to trim at least 10 inches from their heads at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (10/18) in the East Rec lounge of Earhart Hall. The hair will be then donated to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to disadvantaged children with medically-related hair loss. Students with shorter hair can get haircuts for a $20 donation.

Event organizer Lori Byrns says students regard Locks of Love as a worthy cause. "We hope to get about 50 students to participate this year," says Byrns. "This is a college campus, and a lot of girls have long hair. So, we try to help them out."

Students can sign up for haircuts at any of the women's residence halls or by calling Byrns at (765) 495-1363 or the Earhart Hall front desk at (765) 494-2410.

Locks of Love has helped more than 500 children since it was founded in 1997.
