Updated travel directions around road construction zones near campus are available on the Web. EVENTS ** Saturday, Oct. 20, 10:30 a.m. "Classical Demonstrations of Chemical Phenomena." Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry, Room 200. Purdue's Department of Chemistry will demonstrate basic principles of chemistry in a one-hour show. The demonstrations are geared for people of all ages. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. "BIG BANG: Purdue Big Bass Drum Birthday Celebration." Imagination Station. 600 N. Fourth St., Lafayette. Two-day celebration for children and families, features workshops, displays, entertainment and treats. Wednesday, Oct. 24. 6:30 p.m. Krannert Leadership Speakers Series. Ritz Charles, 12156 N. Meridian St., Carmel. Bill Russell, the center of Boston Celtics during the 1960s and author of current bestseller "Russell Rules," is the featured speaker for the first Krannert Leadership Speaker Series. Dinner is included in the event. Also speaking: Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and Krannert Dean Richard Cosier. School of Consumer and Family Sciences 75th Anniversary. University Inn, Stewart Center and Purdue Memorial Union. Thursday will kick off the weekend with a Family Fun Night at the University Inn. On Friday there will be special guest speakers, a luncheon and dinner celebration. Saturday will feature the annual pregame tailgate and the student council silent auction. Friday, Oct. 26. 7 p.m. Mortar Board 75th Anniversary Dinner. University Inn, West Lafayette. Dean of Students Emerita Barbara Cook will speak to the class of 2001-2002, alumni and guests. Saturday, Oct. 27. Purdue Bands Game Day Concerts. Homecoming 2001 features a salute to Big Bass Drum's 80th birthday and performances by Purdue Alumni Band. Festivities begin with a performance at Slayter Center by the "All-American" Marching Band 90 minutes prior to kickoff. There also will be a postgame concert at the Purdue Mall Water Sculpture near Hovde Hall. Sunday, Oct. 28. 3 p.m. "Rent." Elliott Hall of Music. The Pulitzer Prize-winning musical tells the story of a group of young Greenwich Villagers learning to cope with life. Presented by Purdue Convocations. Jacqueline Scott, professor of philosophy at Loyola University in Chicago, will present "The Price of the Ticket: A Genealogy and Re-evaluation of Race." Prints and photos of heads and portraiture from the permanent collection will be part of an interactive display. A panel of journalists and faculty will discuss media coverage issues following the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. ** Tuesday, Oct. 16, 1 p.m. "Implementing Olmstead." Stewart Center, Room 310. A teleconference will provide an update on states' progress of implementing the Supreme Court's decision in L.C. & E.W. v. Olmstead. ** Tuesday, Oct. 23. Noon. Diversity Resource Conversations. Potter Engineering Building, Room 118. A panel will discuss civil liberties issues following the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. ** Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2 p.m. "Supervisors: What the ADA Means for You." Stewart Center, Room 218. A workshop will examine what constitutes a disability, how to recognize an employee's request for a reasonable accommodation and what to do.
