Problem-based learning group sponsors poster session, workshop

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue's Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Group is hosting its second annual refereed poster sessions on Oct. 9. The sessions will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room B-853 in the Hicks Undergraduate Library .

Problem-based learning is a teaching strategy that creates learning opportunities out of everyday situations. Based on real-life simulations, these problems are designed for thoughtful and careful analysis to help develop the students’ thinking skills.

The PBL Group was formally recognized as the first-ever affiliate of the Center for Instructional Excellence. The mission of the PBL group is to "facilitate critical thinking and problem-solving through problem-based learning in institutional settings."

Faculty, instructors and teaching assistants who might be interested in how PBL is currently being used by Purdue faculty to develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills are encouraged to visit the poster sessions.

A workshop on problem-based learning workshops also will be offered on Oct. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with lunch included. Registration for the workshop is free and limited to the first 30 faculty or teaching assistants. Register by sending an e-mail to PBL@purdue.edu by Oct.1.
