September 24: Purdue Agriculture Breakfast

The Purdue School of Agriculture will host agriculture leaders from around the state from 7:30-9 a.m. Invited attendees include the Office of the Commissioner of Agriculture, commodity group leaders, state legislators, congressional representatives and past and current members of the Dean’s Advisory Council. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will address the group around 8 a.m. The breakfast will be at the Home Economics Building at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds. September 24: Bennett Round Table

The Farm Foundation Bennett Agricultural Round Table will visit campus in the afternoon to learn about Purdue’s research efforts. Many prominent agricultural leaders from across the nation are members. September 24 & 28: Tours Of Campus And Farm Facilities

The Purdue School of Agriculture has arranged tours of the Agronomy Research Center, Throckmorton-Purdue Agricultural Center, WH Daniel Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center, and the Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory. September 25-27: Purdue Exhibits

Purdue University will have many exhibits in the northwest corner of the Farm Progress Show tent city. The Sustaining Family Farms and Rural Communities tent will feature exhibits dedicated to helping preserve family farms and rural communities. Weather-related safety, land-use planning, safety tips for online shopping, and risk management on the farm will be some of the many topics covered in the Purdue Extension tent. The Purdue Animal Agriculture tent will showcase displays from the Department of Animal Sciences, the Animal Disease and Diagnostic Laboratory, and the School of Veterinary Medicine. Information on food animals and biosecurity, computers and distance education, and animal diseases also will be available. A student information tent will host Purdue students from nearly every department in the School of Agriculture, as well as the schools of Consumer and Family Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. September 25-27: The Boiler Mazer

The five-acre Boiler Mazer corn field maze will be open to the public. Created by the agronomy department with GPS technology, the maze will include educational exhibits and crop trivia challenges. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the maze will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Farm Progress Show site. September 26: "Politics And Promise Of Agriculture In
France And In America: A Comparative Perspective"

A panel of three French and three American agriculture leaders will discuss the status of agriculture economies in the two countries during this international symposium. The symposium will provide a comparative look at government policy, new technology, economics, markets and trade, environmental issues, food safety, and social issues. The event will be 7:30-9 p.m. in Stewart Center, Room 206, on the West Lafayette campus. An informal reception and refreshments will follow. Parking will be available at the Grant Street parking garage. The Indiana Humanities Council and the School of Agriculture are symposium sponsors.
