Updated travel directions around road construction zones near campus are available on the Web available. EVENTS Saturday, Sept. 1. 10 a.m. Global Fest. Morton Community Center, 222 N. Chauncey Ave., West Lafayette. African Students Association will take part in this community event. ** Tuesday, Sept. 11. 9:30 p.m. Golden Taps. Purdue Bell Tower. The ceremony will recognize students who have died during the previous semester. The program is organized by Purdue Bands. Saturday, Sept. 22. Saturday with the Boilermakers. On-campus program for high school seniors consists of an information fair, admissions sessions and tours of the campus and residence halls. Participating high school seniors receive a complimentary ticket to the football game on the same day. Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 25-27. Farm Progress Show. U.S. Highway 52, south of Lafayette. One of the largest farm shows in the country with 600 vendors, the Farm Progress Show is an 80-acre tent city that attracts crowds from around the world. North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will meet with presidents of various student organizations at Purdue. Sponsored by Student Organization and Activities, Office of the Dean of Students. ** Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28 and 29. High Flying Fun. Aviation Technology Building, Purdue Airport. Campus Girl Scouts sponsoring event for local Girl Scouts. ENTERTAINMENT ** Friday, Sept. 7. 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. "All Night at the RSC." Recreational Sports Center. Event will feature music from the Clayton Miller Blues Band and DJs. Other activities include cannonball contests in the new Aquatics Center, a two-on-two basketball tournament, soccer, volleyball, weight lifting and demonstrations by student groups. Saturday, Sept. 8. 1-6 p.m. Slayter Slammer, Slayter Center for the Performing Arts. Triangle, Acacia, Alpha Kappa Lambda, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega and Alpha Omicron Pi are sponsoring this free concert. Proceeds from T-shirt and food sales go to Make-A-Wish Arthritis Foundation. Friday, Sept. 14. 8 p.m. Blue Collar Comedy Tour starring Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall. Elliott Hall of Music. Tickets are $37.50. Saturday, Sept. 15. Purdue Bands Game Day Concerts. Festivities begin with a jazz tailgate party at Slayter Center two and a half hours before kickoff. The "All-American" Marching Band performs 90 minutes prior to kickoff. There also will be a postgame concert at the Purdue Mall Water Sculpture near Hovde Hall. Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 20-23 and 27-30. "Cat on at Hot Tin Roof." Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. The Mainstage season opener is Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize winning drama. A southern family celebrates the 65th birthday of patriarch Big Daddy and finds themselves immersed in a sea of mendacity as lies about the truth of their lives and about Big Daddy's imminent death fill the air. Directed by Dale Miller. Tickets: $11 and $13 for general public, $7 and $9 for students and senior citizens. Thursday, Sept. 20. 7:30 p.m. Avalon String Quartet. Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. LECTURES ** Tuesday, Sept. 4. 3:30 p.m. "Diversity Economics." Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Gerry Fernandez, founder and president of Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance, will speak. The talk is part of the Executive in the Classroom Series sponsored by the hospitality and tourism management department. ** Wednesday, Sept. 5, 3:30 p.m. "The Human Relationship with Nature: Structure, Development, and the Problem of Environmental Generational Amnesia." Room 203, Child Development and Family Studies Building. Peter Kahn, professor of psychology at the University of Washington, will discuss his research on how people forget, from one generation to another, what they have done to the environment. The event is sponsored by Purdue's Center for the Human-Animal Bond and the National Science Foundation. ** Wednesday, Sept. 5. 4 p.m. "Trends Influencing Air Transport in the 21st Century." Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Jürgen Weber, chairman and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, will provide a personal view on the air transport industry during the William E. Boeing Distinguished Lecture. The event is sponsored by the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. ** Thursday, Sept. 6, 4:30 p.m. Jewish Studies Public Lecture Series. Krannert Auditorium, Krannert Building. Willis G. Regier, director of the University of Illinois Press, will speak on "Publishing in Judaic Studies." Thursday, Sept. 6, 7 p.m. Kweisi Mfume, president and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, will speak in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center.
