August 24, 2001 Forage management workshop offers feed for thoughtWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. A Purdue University workshop promises farmers much feed for thought. The 2001 Forage Management Training Workshop offers forage growers timely advice on issues ranging from insects to double-crop options. The workshop takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Purdue Agronomy Research Center, located five miles west of Purdue's West Lafayette campus near Montmorenci. "The workshop is designed to enhance forage crop management skills," said Keith Johnson, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service forage specialist. "It will specifically address issues that can help producers improve profit potential." Purdue specialists and county educators will lead workshop sessions. Among the topics planned are: forage identification, insect identification and management, tall fescue endophyte, weed control, seeding, hay curing, yield/quality/persistence, pastures, silage management and double-cropping. Certified crop advisors and licensed pesticide applicators may be eligible for continuing education units and hours by attending the workshop. Registration is $60 for members of the Indiana Forage Council and $70 for nonmembers. The cost includes lunch, refreshments and workshop materials.
