For additional information, call (765) 494-8396 Aug. 21: Davis Purdue Field DayThe Davis Purdue Field Day begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. At 9 a.m. attendees will take a look at corn and soybean herbicide demonstration plots followed by a farm tour at 10 a.m. There will be 45-minute presentations on understanding herbicide drift, agricultural biotechnology, soybean cyst nematode research and sudden death syndrome. The field day is free and open to the public. A free lunch will be provided by sponsoring chemical companies. The Davis Purdue Ag Center is located in Randolph County, five miles north of Farmland, Ind., on State Road 1. Aug. 22: Pinney Purdue Field DayPinney Purdue Field Day will be Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Pinney Purdue Agricultural Center in LaPorte County. The event is free and open to the public. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and is followed by a series of tours and program presentations, which start at 9:30 a.m. Topics range from scouting soybeans for western corn rootworms to controlling spray drift. Concluding the day at 1:15 p.m., Chris Hurt, professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University, will give this year's agricultural outlook. A free lunch will be provided at the event. The Pinney Purdue center is located five miles east of Valparaiso, Ind., off of U.S. 30 and north a half mile on County Line Road. Sept. 16: Farm Festival 2001Purdue University Cooperative Extension and the Shelby County Extension Board will present a driving tour of five different farms in northwestern Shelby County. The free tour is open to the public and takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Attendees can start at any farm. There will be signs posted to guide participants from farm to farm. The tour includes dairy, horse and goat, swine and beef farms. Also on the tour is the Anderson Orchard. Each stop will offer drinks, and sandwiches and snacks that are related to what the farms produce. For more information call the Shelby County Extension Office at 1-888-671-2367.
