August 3, 2001 Police investigate double homicide in student housing complexWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University police are investigating the murders of two women whose bodies were discovered today (Friday, 8/3) in the Purdue Village, a student housing complex on the West Lafayette campus. Joseph L. Bennett, Purdue's vice president for university relations, said police discovered the bodies at approximately 10:20 a.m. today, and that authorities believe the murders occurred sometime Thursday (8/2) evening. Both victims were South Korean nationals, and one of the women was a Purdue student, Bennett said. He said the second victim was believed to be the Purdue student's sister. Investigators have not released the identities of the women pending notification of their families. Tippecanoe County coroner Martin Avolt would not specify the cause of death, but said both victims suffered "traumatic injuries." Autopsies have been scheduled for Saturday (8/4) at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Purdue Police Chief Linda Stump said both women were fully clothed and there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment. The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department, Lafayette Police Department, Indiana State Police and FBI are assisting with the investigation. Source: Joseph L.
