Today's activities, the most ever offered during the annual Spring Fest, attracted a record-setting crowd. In past years the largest number of people visiting the campus during the two-day event was 15,000.

Events at the Bug Bowl, which continues through Sunday (4/8), include an insect petting zoo, an insects-as-food booth, a cricket spitting contest and cockroach racing at "Roach Hill Downs."

"The petting zoo features a millipede, Madagascar hissing cockroach and a tarantula," said Tom Turpin, professor of entomology. "Although the tarantula is not really a bug, it's a Bug Bowl favorite."
