Updated travel directions around road construction zones near campus are available on the Web. EVENTS Sunday, April 1. 6 p.m. Grand Prix/Grand Alternative Convocation. Elliott Hall of Music. Mike Green will speak at the event sponsored by Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association, Purdue Cooperative Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Purdue Student Government and the Office of the Dean of Students. Monday, April 2. Noon-5 p.m. School of Veterinary Medicine's 14th Annual Phi Zeta Research Day. Room G167, Lynn Hall. Program will include presentations of ongoing research and clinical investigations by faculty and graduate students. Keynote address at 4 p.m. by Jeffrey Boehm, vice president of research and veterinary medicine at the John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Ill. Topic: "Belugas ... a Case Study in Education, Research and Conservation at the John G. Shedd Aquarium." Wednesday, April 4. 2 p.m. Interview with the President. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will have an interview with Dan Skinner on WBAA AM-920. Thursday, April 5. University Day. Annual campus clean-up event sponsored by Purdue Student Government. Saturday, April 7. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Purdue Engineering Student Council will sponsor "Envision" at Purdues Engineering Mall. The event is an opportunity for elementary school students, prospective Purdue students, current Purdue students, parents and the community to learn first-hand about engineering. Campuswide activities include the 11th annual Entomology Bug Bowl, the 88th annual Horticulture show sponsored by the Purdue Historical Society, the Purdue Student Union Board's annual Mother's Weekend Arts and Crafts Show and numerous school open houses. More information is available at the Spring Fest web site. Sunday, April 8. University Honors Convocation. 11 a.m. Elliott Hall of Music. The annual awards ceremony honors outstanding faculty members universitywide and in each of the undergraduate schools. Dean's list or semester honors students from the spring and fall semesters are recognized, as are winners of year-end student and staff awards. Monday April 9. Women in Engineering Career Day. Gala Weekend. A weekend of activities to celebrate the classes of 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971 and 1976 and welcome alumni back to campus. Highlights of this year's events include: reunion dinners on Friday evening; the Class Parade at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; the 127th Founders Day Reception and Banquet at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday; and the Loyalty Brunch at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Most academic schools also will host events and open houses throughout the weekend. Each year, the Black Caucus of Faculty and Staff and the Purdue Black Alumni Organization recognize nearly 200 African-American undergraduate students for their academic achievements. Carolyn E. Johnson, senior research associate in the Purdue African-American Studies and Research Center will be the keynote speaker. ENTERTAINMENT Thursday, April 5. 7:30 p.m. Emerson String Quartet. Loeb Playhouse, Stewart Center. A part of the Loeb Music Collection presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets $27 for the public, $18 for Purdue students. Range of percussion featured in the annual spring concert of the Purdue Percussion Ensemble and Winter Drum Line. Free food will be provided. Thursday through Saturday, April 12-14 and 17-21. "Side Man." Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. The Tony Award winning memory play captures the pulse of the New York jazz scene over three decades and portrays the turmoil in a jazz musician's family as his career crumbles at the dawn of the age of rock-and-roll.
