PMO's 'Double Take' takes on Billy Joel and Motown

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Musical Organizations' University Choir and PMO Express ensemble will perform a joint concert, "Double Take," at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in Loeb Playhouse.

"Double Take," presented by University Inn, will include the music of Billy Joel and songs from the Motown record label.

Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for students, and are available at campus box offices or charge by phone at (765) 494-3933. Tickets also will be available at the door.

"'Double Take' is an extraordinary opportunity to see University Choir and PMO Express stretch their wings as they arrange, choreograph, stage, costume and perform in student-produced medleys," said PMO Express director Ly Tartell. "What makes 'Double Take' unique from other PMO concerts is the students' contributions to the creative aspect of the show. In addition to performing their traditional repertoire of music, the show will feature two medleys."

Following the format of the first "Double Take" concert, which took place last spring, one medley will concentrate on a specific musical artist while the other will encompass a variety of songs from an entire genre of music. For this year's concert, the students chose the work of singer-songwriter Billy Joel and music from the Motown record label.

Students from both choirs have been planning the concert since early fall. Two students were chosen to be producers, with the job of overseeing several committees responsible for planning all aspects of the production, including choreography, arranging the music, staging, costumes and public relations.

"As a freshman, 'Double Take' has allowed me to assume a leadership position while working in an enjoyable setting with my friends," said Sara Wildman, a University Choir freshman.
