Appointments and promotions

– Two new staff members have joined the Purdue Alumni Association:

Jamie Ruark is the assistant director for alumni clubs and young alumni. She also is the adviser to the Purdue Alumni Association Student Ambassadors. Ruark received her bachelor of arts degree from Purdue in May 1999 and her master of science in education degree in December 2000. She previously worked as a graduate assistant for the Purdue Alumni Association.

Ellen Yazbec is the assistant editor for the Purdue Alumnus. Her responsibilities include assisting with the production of publications developed by the Purdue Alumni Association. She is a May 2000 graduate of Purdue. She previously worked as a copy editor for the Journal and Courier and as campus editor and editor in chief of the Purdue Exponent.

– Two members of the Purdue Alumni Association staff have been assigned new roles with the Association:

Rose Mary Elzey was promoted to editorial assistant to the Purdue Alumnus magazine. She will assist in the magazine's production and coordinate the advertising program. Elzey graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne and has been with PAA since 1990 as the secretary for the alumni clubs.

Kathy Brickler was promoted to assistant to special events. She is responsible for assisting with Gala weekend, Homecoming and football weekends. In addition, Brickler will assist with the association’s merchandise program. A graduate of Normal Community High School and the Lafayette Beauty Academy, Brickler previously worked as a records clerk for the Purdue Alumni Association.

– James C. Heisel was appointed assistant fire chief of the Purdue University Fire Department on Feb. 1. Heisel joined the department in 1982, and has served as lieutenant and emergency medical training officer since 1996. Previously he was a firefighter and emergency medical technician for the city of Crawfordsville and director of the Clay County Emergency Medical Service. Heisel is a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and is an accredited master firefighter. He is a graduate of Crawfordsville High School.

– Kevin M. Ply began serving as lieutenant of the Purdue University Fire Department on March 5. He joined Purdue as a firefighter in July of 1989 and previously served as director of environmental services and safety and security for Lafayette Home Hospital. Ply is a member of the Lafayette Fire School Committee and past member of the Tippecanoe County Civil Defense Advisory Council, the National Safety Council and the International Association of Hospital Security. He is a graduate of William H. Harrison High School.

– Brian K. Campbell will begin duties as firefighter for the Purdue University Fire Department on April 2. Campbell has served as firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Frankfort Fire Department since 1993. He also is a personal trainer at Frankfort's YMCA. Before joining Purdue, he was a group home counselor for Houston Group Homes in Crawfordsville. Campbell holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Wabash College and is a graduate of Clinton Prairie High School.

Faculty and staff honors

– Dayton G. Vincent, professor of atmospheric science, has received the Charles Franklin Brooks Award for outstanding services to the American Meteorological Society in the areas of tropical meteorology and the meteorology of the Southern Hemisphere. He received the award during the society's annual meeting in January in Albuquerque, N.M.
