Study Abroad office extends deadlines
for summer programs
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Due to a nearly 50 percent increase in the number of students applying for summer study abroad opportunities, additional spaces are being secured in a number of programs and the application deadline has been extended to March 23.
The 2001 Purdue-sponsored summer programs include Oxford and Cambridge, England; Madrid, Spain; Martinique, French West Indies; Prague, Czech Republic; and Florence, Italy. Students also may still apply for many of the Purdue cosponsored programs at additional sites around the world.
Jeff Sanson, assistant director for student services, says while some programs may temporarily close, interested students are encouraged to submit applications and a list of alternate choices while the Programs for Study Abroad office seeks additional spaces.
Participants are enrolled as regular Purdue students while on university-administered and cosponsored study abroad programs, and therefore are eligible for scholarships and financial aid. Those funds may be applied to program fees.
The Division of Financial Aid has written guidelines concerning financial aid and study abroad. Students are encouraged to investigate their options whether or not they are currently receiving financial aid.
The application form for all Purdue study abroad programs is available at the Programs for Study Abroad office in Young Graduate House, or online. Applicants also should submit an essay, two letters of recommendation and an official transcript.
