March 7, 2001 Concert by rapper Nelly to kick off Gala WeekendWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Rap star Nelly will give a 7:30 p.m. concert in the Elliott Hall of Music on Thursday, April 19, kicking off Gala Weekend on the Purdue campus. Admission to the concert is $25. Public ticket sales will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, at campus box offices and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets can be charged by phone at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW. Nelly is a presentation of the Student Concert Committee. With recent appearances on David Letterman and the Super Bowl halftime show, the 21-year-old rapper also was recently awarded the "Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist" during the Soul Train Music Awards. Nelly started as a member of the St. Louis hip-hop group St. Lunatics before stepping out on his own. His first album "Country Grammar" has spent 35 weeks on the Top 100 R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Purdue students, faculty and staff who would like to purchase advance concert tickets must sign up for a campus lottery of ticket purchasing time slots. Students may sign up by computer on the SSINFO Web site from 8 a.m. Monday, March 19, through noon Wednesday, March 21. Follow these steps to ensure an assigned time: Go to the SSINFO Web site. Log on using career account information. Select the "Student Life" link on the left side of the page. Follow the "SCC Concert Ticket Times" link and continue to follow the steps to sign up for a ticket purchase time. Purdue faculty and staff may sign up by presenting staff identification to Student Concert Committee members from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, in the Elliott Hall of Music lobby. Faculty and staff times will be posted near campus box offices by 9 a.m. Thursday, March 21. Campus ticket sale day begins at 8 a.m. Friday, March 23, at the Elliott Hall box office. Faculty, staff members and students must present their campus ID at the SCC registration table to purchase tickets. A limit of six tickets may be purchased. University policy and federal law prohibits student or staff members from using an identification card belonging to anyone else for the purpose of ticket purchasing.
