Purdue Galleries present faculty exhibit,
ceramic exchange
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue University Galleries will present two exhibitions, "New Art/New Design" and "Fatti dArgilla/Made in Clay," from March 19 through April 29.
The exhibitions and related events are free and open to the public.
"New Art/New Design," with artwork by members of the art and design faculty of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, will be in the Stewart Center Gallery, Stewart Center West Lobby.
The artwork on display will encompass a wide range of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, textiles, ceramics, metals, architectural renderings, industrial design and poster design.
The exhibiting artists and designers, all Division of Art and Design faculty members, are: Ali Broach, Anna Cicirelli, Gregory R. Corrigan, Laura Johnson Drake, Dan Engelke, Jin Feng, Charles Gick, Dennis Ichiyama, Julieve Jubin, Ilkka Kettunen, Lou Kontos, Robin Kraft, Robert Mahorney, Darlene Mitchell, Rick Moon, Karen LaVallee Norton, Grace Benedict OBrien, Rick Paul, Lisa Lee Peterson, Kathryn Reeves, Linda Vanderkolk, Steve Visser and Li Zhang.
The second exhibit, "Fatti dArgilla/Made in Clay," featuring ceramic objects crafted by members of Rasna and the Purdue Ceramics Alliance, will be on display in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery in the Purdue Memorial Union.
The Italian group Rasna is from a region of Italy historically famous for its Etruscan culture, including its famous black pottery, which dates back to 9 B.C. As part of an exchange, the exhibit will be on display in Italy later this year.
The members of Rasna are Mara Funghi, Maria Elena Giorgini, Michele Golia and Marco Vallesi. Artists in the Purdue Ceramic Alliance are Daniel Engelke, Carolina Pedraza, Dana Kroos, Ebru Sahin-Ekici, Todd A. Matteson and Nathan Sonnenberg.
Receptions for the exhibits will be in both galleries from 4:30-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 22. Music by the Purdue String Quartet will be featured in the Stewart Center Gallery.
At noon on Tuesday, March 27, in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery, Dan Engelke will discuss the development of the "Fatti dArgilla" exhibition project. Engelke, a faculty member in the Division of Art and Design, also will discuss exhibition works by Purdue graduate students and Italian artists.
The Purdue University Galleries are sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts with additional support form the Purdue Student Union Board and the Friends of the Galleries. Galleries are located in several locations on the West Lafayette campus.
Stewart Center Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Monday through Thursday, 7-9 p.m.; and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Ringel Gallery hours are Monday though Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
