February 23, 2001 Purdue University highlights of 2000 on videoWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The 46th edition of the Purdue Newsreel is now available for viewing from the Instructional Media Center in the Purdue Undergraduate Library or for purchase from the Purdue Alumni Association. The 23-minute program, which highlights Purdue events from 2000, was produced by the Office of University Relations. The movie, "Purdue Newsreel 2000: A Year To Remember," is sponsored by the Alumni Association, the Alumni Foundation and the Office of the President. It is shown to Purdue alumni clubs around the world. The 2000 Newsreel is narrated by 1981 Purdue graduate Tim Newton, who is director of external relations and communication for the Krannert School of Management. The program was produced and directed by Ray Cubberley, assistant director of university relations for broadcast services. A VHS copy of the newsreel can be purchased for $19.95 plus $3 for shipping and handling from the Purdue Alumni Association, Room 160, Purdue Memorial Union, 101 N. Grant St., West Lafayette, Ind. 47906-6212, telephone (765) 494-5175. Highlights in the 2000 newsreel include: the changeover in the presidency, with Dr. Steven C. Beering stepping down after 17 years and Martin C. Jischke becoming Purdues 10th president; commencement, including honorary degrees for Steven and Jane Beering; Jischkes monthly talk show on WBAA; Jischkes teaching of a freshman leadership class; record student enrollment; Purdue Jazz Bands appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival; study abroad students in England, Ireland and Italy; Homecoming pep rally; new Golden Girl; Jahari Dance Troupe performing at a football halftime; new Keck electron microscope; German International Graduate School of Management and Administration students getting Purdue degrees in Germany; Indiana professor of the year Marc Loudon; hardwood tree research in the school of agriculture; Ringel art gallery dedication; webcasting by WBAA; dedication of the Continuum sculpture at the school of veterinary medicine; preparations for new buildings for the schools of management and chemical engineering; an update on the new aquatics center; a new spire for university hall.
