February 2, 2001 Purdue offers university statistical data onlineWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An institutional profile of Purdue University's West Lafayette campus is now available online as well as in printed form. The Purdue Data Digest was developed by the Office of Budget and Fiscal Planning and the Institutional Data Network, a group of staff organized to develop a standard and consistent way to present data about the university. The digest is located on the Web. The digest, to be updated each January, is intended to be used as a reference source for detailed information about Purdue. "The information in the digest includes data that are often requested from many different offices across the campus," says Jacque Frost, associate director of budget and fiscal planning. "Hopefully, this single source will better meet people's needs. We have information from 20 offices on the West Lafayette campus." The information, Frost says, is broken down mostly on a campuswide basis and attempts to cover the breadth of university activities. "This is an overview of the West Lafayette campus," she says. "Most of this information has been out there in some form all along, but it has never been in one spot. This is a consolidation of detailed information on a variety of topics." The digest is broken down into 10 areas: fast facts, students, instruction, faculty and staff, finance, facilities, research, Big Ten university comparisons, additional facts and figures, and definitions. Each area includes several pages of pertinent information, among which are: • A graph of enrollment figures from 1874 through 2000. • Charts indicating student credit hours, student contact hours and distribution of class sections. • Classification counts for faculty and staff over time. • Budgets by functional areas, sources of funds and expenditures. • A comparison of tuition and fees with other Big Ten universities.
