Purdue alumna, president of Borders,
keynotes career conference

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The president of Borders Stores and borders.com, a 1980 Purdue University graduate, will return to campus as keynote speaker for a career conference on Tuesday and Wednesday (2/6 and 2/7).

Tami Heim will address attendees at the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing's annual Midwest Retail Management Career Conference. Heim's talk will be at noon on Tuesday in the Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom.

The retail conference will begin with registration at 8 a.m. on Tuesday outside the West Faculty Lounge, Purdue Memorial Union. Nonnie Cameron, president and owner of Etiquette, will kick off the conference at 9 a.m. in the West Faculty Lounge with a presentation on gaining the competitive edge.

The career fair will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Union's South Ballroom, where students will have the chance to schedule interviews with the participating companies for permanent placement and internships. The interviews will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Participants should dress professionally and bring their resumes.

Students also can gather information on the retail industry and future employment opportunities, as well as on polishing their resumes and honing interviewing skills. The career fair is open to the public, but all other conference activities and presentations require registration.

Representatives from more than three dozen companies including department stores, discounters, specialty retailers and financial services firms will be on hand. Some representative companies are Abercrombie & Fitch, Wal-Mart, Charles Schwab and Tractor Supply Co.
