New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's online calendar.

EVENTS

• Friday, Jan. 26. 11:30 a.m. Ag Alumni Annual Fish Fry. Purdue Armory. Tickets are $12 and must be purchased in advance from the Agricultural Alumni Association office or any county Cooperative Extension office.

• Wednesday, Feb. 7. 2 p.m. Interview with the President. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke's monthly radio call-in show on WBAA, AM 920.

• Friday, Feb. 9. 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. "Purdue Research Park Job Fair." Purdue Technology Center, 3000 Kent Ave, West Lafayette. The fair was designed to acquaint Purdue alumni, students and friends with job opportunities available at the park. For more information, contact Sue Grimes, (765) 494-5858.

ENTERTAINMENT

• Wednesday, Jan. 24. Jewish Studies Film Series. Room 2290, Liberal Arts and Education Building. "Life is Beautiful," a romantic comedy set in the Nazi concentration camps of World War II. For his performance, Roberto Benigni won the 1999 Academy Award for Best Actor.

• Friday, Feb. 2. Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. 8 p.m. Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. A special presentation of Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $28 for the public and $23 for Purdue students.

• Sunday, Feb. 4. Corigliano String Quartet. 3 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. A young string quartet who serve on the music faculty at Indiana University. A part of the Discovery Concerts series presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $9.

** • Tuesday, Feb. 13. Jacques Thibaud String Trio. 7:30 p.m. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Begun at the Berlin School of Art, this up-and-coming string trio plays completely from memory. A part of the Discovery Concerts series presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $7.

** • Saturday, Feb. 17. Showboat. 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Elliott Hall of Music. National tour of the Broadway revival of the musical featuring work of Jerome Kern & Oscar Hammerstein II. A part of the Lively Arts Package presented by Purdue Convocations. Tickets are $30, $26 or $18 for the public and $19, $16 or $14 for Purdue students.

** • Sunday, Feb. 18. Windworks. 2:20 p.m. Long Center for the Performing Arts, 111 N. Sixth St., Lafayette. Performances by University Concert Band, Varsity Band and Collegiate Band.

• Through Feb. 25. Purdue Galleries exhibit: "Pre-Columbian Textiles." Robert L. Ringel Gallery, Purdue Memorial Union. Pieces from the collection; a gift of Mike D. and David C. May.

• Through Feb. 25. Purdue Galleries exhibit: "Virtual Hands: Collaborations by Lisa Lee Peterson and Skif Peterson." Stewart Center Gallery, Stewart Center. Associate Professor of Art & Design Lisa Peterson’s hand weavings, Skif Peterson’s digital prints and the Petersons' cybernetic woven collaborations.

• Through Feb. 25. Purdue Galleries exhibit: "Hilary Eddy Paintings from the collection of Dorothy Murphy." Ralph G. Beelke Memorial Gallery, Creative Arts Building 2. Floral "hybrid" paintings of this accomplished Purdue graduate from the collection of a West Lafayette supporter and sponsor of Eddy.

SEMINARS

• Friday, Jan. 26. 9:15 a.m. Purdue Ag Forecast. Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. Lowell Catlett, professor of agricultural economics at New Mexico State University, will discuss "American Agriculture – A Futuristic Look."

• Wednesday, Jan. 31. 12:30 p.m. Jewish Studies Noon Series. Room 214A, Stewart Center. Professor Emeritus William Buffington, Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, will speak "On the Trail of Controversy: From Martin Luther to the Oberammergau Passion Play 2000."

• Friday and Saturday, Feb. 2 and 3. 21st Annual Farming Together Workshop. Stewart Center. This workshop by agricultural economists aims to help current and future agricultural practitioners in their business relationships, both on and off the farm. Cost is $30 per farm or individual. ** • Wednesday, Feb. 14. Jewish Studies Noon Series. Room 218C, Stewart Center. Stuart Robertson, pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church, West Lafayette, will speak on "Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik: A Voice of Conscience When Conscience Has Gone to Sleep."

CONFERENCES

• Thursday, Feb. 1. Noon. Entrepreneurs' Forum. Purdue Technology Center, Purdue Research Park. Monthly, hour-long forum invites faculty, staff, students and other interested individuals to network and learn more about what is involved in starting a company. The speaker is Tom Hiatt, of MWV Capital Partners, who will speak on "Beyond the Year 2000: The Role of Private Equity in Building the Next Generation of Indiana’s Companies." • Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 5-7. 21st Annual Midwest Retail Management Career Conference sponsored by the Retail Institute, Department of Consumer Science and Retailing. Stewart Center. North and South ballrooms, Purdue Memorial Union. The conference will focus on professional development for students and recruitment for companies. The keynote address will be by Tami Heim, president of Borders Stores and Borders.com. Student registration, by Jan. 27, is $20.
