January 26: Purdue Ag Forecast

"American Agriculture – A Futuristic Look" will be the title of a talk by Lowell Catlett, professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business at New Mexico State University. He is a well-known speaker in the area of futuristic planning and research. The free talk begins at 9:15 a.m. in Fowler Hall, Stewart Center. January 26: Purdue Ag Fish Fry

"Hail to the Chief" is the theme for this year’s event as the Purdue Agricultural Alumni Association pays tribute to new Purdue President Martin C. Jischke and the new president of the United States. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Purdue Armory, and doors open at 11:05 a.m. The lunch will feature breaded pork tenderloins. Tickets are $12 and must be purchased in advance. Tickets can be purchased at all county Extension offices and by contacting the Ag Alumni Association at (765) 494-8593. Free parking is available in the football parking lot north of Ross-Ade Stadium. Shuttle vans will run from the lot to the armory both before and after the event. January 29-31: Indiana Horticultural Congress

Topics to be covered include: new and specialty crops, fruit and vegetable growing, organic farming, state and federal regulations, pesticides, crop insurance, and food safety. Cosponsored by Purdue Extension, the congress also features a trade show. The event is at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Indianapolis. The registration fee for congress organization members is $30 per person and $40 for non-members. On-site registration is an additional $15. February 12 - March 5: Swine Education Series
On Herd Management

Purdue's Department of Animal Sciences is offering a distance learning course on swine management. The four-week short course will update producers, managers and swine industry technical representatives on the latest techniques in breeding herd management. Topics include heat detection, gestation management, basic nutrition and health, gilt development, and pregnancy diagnosis. The course is being offered Mondays from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on the Purdue campus and via two-way video conferencing at Extension offices in Clinton County, Decatur County, Marion County, Marshall County, Vanderburgh County and Whitley County.
