Football, basketball ticket prices to increase for 2001-02

The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Saturday, 12/16) approved new ticket prices for football and men’s and women’s basketball.

Student football season and single-game ticket prices had not been increased since 1997-98. Student basketball ticket prices had not been increased since 1996-97.

"These increases place Purdue in the middle third of the Big Ten, depending on whether our counterparts in the conference raise prices," said Morgan Burke, director of intercollegiate athletics. "We are sensitive to the costs of attending our events, and that is why we have avoided raising prices for students as long as we have."

The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics is self-supporting and receives no state, university or tuition funds.

The increase in football ticket prices will, in part, help support the planned $60 million first-phase renovation of Ross-Ade Stadium. Work is scheduled to begin in the spring on relocation of Steven Beering Drive to make room for an expanded concourse that is a key feature of the project. The first phase will be funded by a bond issue, which will be paid off through the sale of premium seating and suites and increased ticket revenues.

Ticket prices, which take effect in the fall, are:

Football:

… Season/general public — $192, an increase of $12.
… Season/faculty and staff — $154, up $10.
… Season/students - $72, a $12 increase.
… Season/south end zone - $120, up $12.

Single-game tickets will increase to $36 from $34 for the public and faculty and staff. Student single-game prices will rise from $14 to $17.

Additionally, premium single-game prices will be charged for selected games against opponents such as Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Indiana University. For the general public and faculty and staff, the premium price will be $41, up from $38. For students, the premium price will be $20. Previously, no premium price had been charged for students.

Group sales price for 25 or more single-game tickets purchased in advance will increase $2 to $26 per ticket.

The price for a season ticket in the Buchanan Press Box will increase $30 to $270.

Trustees also approved continuation of the policy that allows first-year Purdue graduates to pay the same price as students.

Men’s basketball:

… Season/general public — $272 for upper arena and $352 for lower arena, up $16.
… Season/faculty and staff — $218 for upper arena and $282 for lower arena, up $13.
… Season/students — $88 for upper and lower arena, up $11.
… Single game/general public and faculty and staff — $17 for upper arena and $22 for lower arena, a $1 increase.
… Single game/students — $8 for upper and lower arena, up $1.

Premium games, if not sold out on a season-ticket basis, will be $21 for upper arena and $26 for lower, a $1 increase.

Season-ticket prices are based on a 16-game home schedule. If that number changes, prices will be adjusted on a prorated basis.

Women’s basketball:

… Season/general public and faculty and staff — $94, up $10.
… Season/student — $42, a $10 increase.
… Single game/public and faculty and staff — $9, up $1.
… Single game/student — $4, a $1 increase.

Group prices for tickets purchased in advance will be $4, up $1.

Women’s basketball season ticket prices are based on a 13-game home schedule. If that number changes before the start of preseason ticket sales, the price of season tickets will be adjusted accordingly.

Children under the age of 2 will continue to be admitted free to women’s games.

Prices for the Gold Rush and Platinum discount cards also will increase. The Gold Rush Card, which admits the bearer to all home athletics events except men’s basketball, will increase $10 to $90. The Platinum Card, which includes men’s basketball, will be $178 up $8.
