Purdue Theatre featured on A&E's 'Biography'WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Viewers can catch a glimpse of Purdue University when the A&E network series "Biography" examines the life of actress Frances Farmer. The episode will air Thursday (10/19). Check local listings for times. During the 1960s, Farmer was a frequent guest star of Purdue Summer Theatre. She performed in Loeb Playhouse productions of "The Sea Gull" and "The Visit," as well as a Purdue Experimental Theatre production of "Look Homeward, Angel." A star of theater and Hollywood films, Farmer settled in Indianapolis in the late 1950s and acted as hostess for television's "Frances Farmer Presents," a movie showcase. It was during this period of her life that she became involved with Purdue Theatre. Joseph Stockdale, producer-director of Purdue Summer Theatre and long-time director of the Experimental Theatre, was interviewed for the "Biography" program. The Stockdale-Smith Scholarship Endowment was created by alumni early this year to honor Stockdale and his colleague, Ross Smith. Purdue Theatre provided the documentary producers with supplemental photographs, playbills and other materials.
