Event Days: 10/10/00 - 11/16/00 October 10: Science On Six Legs -- An Insectaganza Of EducationThe Department of Entomology at Purdue will hold this fifth annual event, which is expected to attract more than 1,000 fifth-graders from 16 Lafayette area schools. The daylong program, designed to promote science education, includes activities such as: "Magic of Insects," a magic show about bugs; insect dissection; Quiz Bowl; the Caterpillar Canter, a race between groups of students forming a human caterpillar; and a presentation titled "Bugs and Things." October 12-14: Conference For Forest LandownersA conference focusing on the importance of financial management to the forestry industry will be held at Indiana University Southeast, New Albany, in the University Center Building. Sessions will be held on a variety of topics, from forest herbs to buying and selling development rights. The event is sponsored in part by Purdue Extension and the Purdue Forestry Department. Registration is $65 per person, which includes two lunches, breaks, conference materials, banquet and tour of the Forest Discovery Center. Additional family members may attend the event for $45 each, but they will not receive conference materials. There also is a daily rate available. Registrations are still being accepted. October 26-27: Technology For Today'S Septic Systems: A Public ForumPurdue University and the Indiana Onsite Wastewater Professionals Association (IOWPA) are sponsoring a conference for wastewater professionals and homeowners on non-traditional septic systems. Sessions will be offered on pretreatment systems such as constructed wetlands, filters and aeration treatment systems. The event will be held at the Kokomo Convention Center. November 1- 4: Venison WorkshopPurdue Chef Emeritus Hubert Schmieder is presenting workshops across the state to teach the proper way to butcher and cook venison. November 13, 14 & 16: Hands-On Post Harvest Training And Recertification WorkshopThe Indiana Grain and Feed Association, and Purdue Cooperative Extension Service, are offering continuing education workshops for the grain and pest management industries. The all-day workshops are designed to help people better understand crop management. Dates and locations are: Nov. 13 Post Harvest Education and Research Center, Agronomy Research Center, Hwy 52 North, West Lafayette. Nov. 14 Southwest Purdue Ag Center, 4369 N. Purdue Rd., Vincennes. Nov. 16 Northeast Purdue Ag Center, 4821 E. 400 S., Columbia City. There is a $70 pre-registration fee, due by Nov. 5. On-site registration is $80. Registration is limited and pre-registration is recommended. Lunch is not provided. Make checks payable to the Indiana Grain and Feed Association.
