Mighty Clouds of Joy to flood Purdue with foot-stomping gospel

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Mighty Clouds of Joy and The Campbell Brothers with Katie Jackson join forces to "Make Joyful Noise" at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 on the Loeb Playhouse stage in Stewart Center.

Single tickets are $24 for general public, $18 for Purdue students. Tickets are available at Purdue box offices or charge by phone (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.

Known for high-energy gospel music, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, headed by founding member Joe Ligon, have been in the gospel business for 39 years, winning four Grammys and a recent induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. During their performance at Purdue, they will be singing pieces from their most recent album, "It Was You."

The Mighty Clouds, known throughout the gospel community as "the chameleons of gospel" for their ever-changing styles, have performed on many television programs including the Jerry Lewis Telethon, the Grammy Awards, the Stellar Awards and their own PBS special.

Newer to the national scene are The Campbell Brothers with Katie Jackson. Hailing from the House of God Keith Dominion Churches, this family has been wailing, shouting and stomping gospel music throughout their lives, and as an ensemble for nearly two decades.

Leading the Campbell Brothers is eldest brother Chuck, who plays a steel guitar equipped with 12 strings, seven foot pedals and five knee levers. Darick plays the lap steel, a traditional gospel instrument. Youngest brother Phil Campbell joins the rhythm section on electric guitar along with his son Carlton on drums. Vocals are sung by Katie Jackson.

"Make a Joyful Noise" featuring The Mighty Clouds of Joy and The Campbell Brothers with Katie Jackson is presented by Purdue Convocation as part of the Patron's Choice Series.
