May 12, 2000 Vintage Indiana wine festival to feature Hoosier winesWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Vintage Indiana, a wine and food festival designed to acquaint more Hoosiers with Indiana wines, will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 10 at Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. "The festival will showcase what Indiana has to offer in both variety and quality of wines," said Sally Peart, marketing and public relations specialist for the Indiana Wine Grape Council based at Purdue University. "We will also provide education on food and wine parings, wine making, and wine appreciation." Vintage Indiana will offer free samples of more than 100 award-winning wines from more than 15 Indiana wineries. Several Hoosier chefs will also prepare their specialties. An education tent will feature live demonstrations and experts offering tips and techniques for food preparation and wine selection. Musical groups will provide entertainment, and a children's area will offer activities for kids. Advance tickets can be purchased at all Marsh Supermarkets, participating wineries, Thomson Newspapers and online. Advance tickets are $12 for adults age 21 and over and $10 for adult designated drivers (18 and older and not consuming alcohol). Tickets at the gate will be $15 for adults age 21 and over and $13 for designated drivers and those 18 and older. Tickets for youths age 17 and under cost $5, and children age 5 and under are free. Everyone entering will be required to show proof of age. Some food, alcohol and activities are not included in the admission price. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Indiana Wine Grape Council, which works with Purdue specialists to improve the quality of Indiana wines, match grape and fruit cultivars to Indiana soils and climate, and promote Indiana wineries to consumers and tourists.
