U.S. News ranks Purdue speech, hearing programs among best

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – U.S. News and World Report ranks two graduate programs in Purdue University's Department of Audiology and Speech Sciences among the nation's top programs in a survey released today (Friday, 3/31).

The master's and doctoral degree programs in speech-language pathology rank fourth nationally, and the master's and doctoral degree programs in audiology tied for 13th place.

"Our programs go back to the 1930s, and we have been pioneers in the new disciplines of speech language pathology and audiology," said Anne Smith, professor and head of the department. "Our faculty's research and our training programs have been outstanding.

"We have also enjoyed strong support externally from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health and internally from Purdue's central administration."

U.S. News ranked graduate programs in 13 health science areas. The rankings were based on responses to surveys sent to deans, administrators and faculty of accredited graduate programs in the health sciences.

The rankings are part of U.S. News and World Report's April 10 issue, "America's Best Graduate Schools," which will be available on newsstands Monday (4/3). The complete rankings and methodology will also be available at U.S. New Online.
