The Smashing Pumpkins to play April 18 at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Smashing Pumpkins will play in the Elliott Hall of Music at Purdue University at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18. Tickets go on sale to Purdue students, faculty and staff Thursday, March 9, and to the public Saturday, March 11.

The group will be touring to support its new album, "MACHINA/the machines of God," which was released Feb. 29. The April 18 concert will be the band's only Indiana and only college date on this leg of the "Resume The Pose Tour."

The concert is presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee in cooperation with JAM Productions.

Evolving from a two-man band from Chicago in the late '80s and early '90s, The Smashing Pumpkins quickly transformed from a hot, regional attraction to one of the world's biggest alternative rock bands. Their third album, "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness" released in 1995, became the biggest selling double CD of all time, and their worldwide album sales have now topped 23 million.

All tickets are $25 and will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at all Ticketmaster outlets. Charge by phone at (765) 746-5151 in Greater Lafayette or (317) 239-5151 in Indianapolis. To ensure that all fans have an equal opportunity to buy tickets, the band has reserved half the tickets for Purdue students, faculty and staff and half for the general public.

Purdue students, faculty and staff can buy in advance of the public on Thursday, March 9. Students may sign up to be assigned an advance purchase time via the Web site beginning at noon Monday, March 6, and continuing through 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 8. The Web site can be accessed by any Purdue student from any computer with Internet access. Students should check under the category "Student Life," for "SCC Ticket Times."

Faculty and staff with valid Purdue ID may sign up for a purchase time in the lobby of Elliott Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 7. If a faculty or staff member is also a student, he or she should sign up as a student. Faculty and staff will need to present valid Purdue identification to sign up for a purchase time.

All requests for purchase times will be randomized and assigned times beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 9. Assigned times for students will be available at the ssinfo Web site by noon Wednesday, March 8; times for faculty and staff will be posted at the box offices by the last six digits of the individual's Social Security number. Purchase times will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, March 9, at Elliott.

Students, faculty and staff should note that credit cards will not be accepted on March 9 and that there is a limit of four tickets per person. Purchasers must bring valid Purdue identification to their purchase time.

If a student or staff member cannot make the purchase time they have been assigned, they may send a proxy in their stead as long as the proxy has the original person's Purdue ID. Students and staff may also purchase tickets on March 9 after their assigned purchase time.
