Purdue students can enter literary competition

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Entries are being accepted for the 69th Annual Literary Awards Contest sponsored by Purdue University's Department of English and School of Liberal Arts.

The competition is open to all graduate and undergraduate Purdue students, including those at regional campuses. Seventy-three cash prizes ranging from $50 to $200 will be awarded in a variety of categories including poetry, short story, screenplay, novel-in-progress, children's literature, business writing and journalism. A Best of Contest prize of $500 will also be awarded.

The deadline for entries is March 8, and all prizes will be presented at the Literary Awards Banquet at 7 p.m. April 18 in the North Ballroom of the Purdue Memorial Union. The keynote speaker will be award-winning novelist Jane Hamilton, author of "The Book of Ruth," "A Map of the World" and "The Short History of a Prince." Tickets for the banquet will go on sale March 27.
