Host families sought for Polish exchange studentsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Office of International Programs in Agriculture is looking for families to host eight Polish exchange students who will attend Purdue University during the spring 2000 semester. The undergraduate students, four males and four females, will arrive in West Lafayette on Jan. 6 and will leave at the end of the semester on May 10. The students are from the Agricultural University of Krakow. Eight Purdue students will study in Poland during the same semester. Host families will provide free room and board and may include the students in their family activities. It is not necessary for host families to have children the same sex or age as the participating students. Host families do need to live within commuting distance of Purdue, and there will be some assistance in making transportation arrangements for the students. "All the students speak excellent English and are covered by medical insurance," said Carol Andrew, host family coordinator. The students also receive a monthly stipend to cover incidental expenses and lunches on school days. "We prefer that each exchange student live with one family the entire semester, but we are willing to work with families whose situations will not permit them to host the entire time," she said. "Backup" host families are available to cover for primary host families during vacations or emergencies. Host families will receive orientation materials and biographical information before the students' arrival with continuing support provided throughout the program. For more information, contact Andrew at (765) 494-8458 by Dec. 10.
