'Camelot' breezes into Purdue on Oct. 15

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A new national tour of the popular Lerner and Lowe Broadway musical "Camelot" is coming to Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. Presented by Purdue Convocations as part of the Lively Arts Package, the musical is sponsored by Eli Lilly & Co., Tippecanoe Labs.

"Camelot," based on T.H. White's best-selling novel, "The Once and Future King," recounts the Arthurian legend with a 20th century perspective and wit. Debuting on Broadway in late 1960, this musical romance features what is considered some of the finest music created by the composer/lyricist duo behind "Paint Your Wagon," "Gigi," "Brigadoon" and "My Fair Lady." Songs from Camelot include "What Do the Simple Folk Do?" "If Ever I Would Leave You," "C'est Moi," "How to Handle a Woman," and the title song. The original Broadway production, starring Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet, won four Tony Awards in 1961.

A special pre-show dinner featuring more Arthurian legend and an inspired menu from Jane's Gourmet Deli and Catering is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the new banquet facilities at Jane's Gourmet Deli in downtown Lafayette at 524 N. Fourth St. Reservations are required, and dinner tickets are $15.95 per person. There will also be a cash bar. Call (765) 494-9712 for reservations.

Tickets to the Oct. 15 performance of "Camelot" are $33, $25 and $16 for the public, $18 and $15 for Purdue students. Family Circle pricing at $8 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under is also available in the second balcony of Elliott Hall. Charge by phone at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW.
