This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next four weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's on-line calendar

EVENTS

  • Tuesday, Aug. 24. Open house at the Recreational Sports Center. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Tuesday, Aug. 24. School of Agriculture Ice Cream Social. 6:30 p.m. Lilly Hall of Life Sciences Lawn.

  • Thursday, Aug. 26. Black Cultural Center Boilerfest. 4 p.m. Black Cultural Center, 1100 Third St. Open house for new students will provide food, music and information.

  • Friday, Aug. 27. Main Event and Activities Carnival. 10 a.m.-1 a.m. Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. More than 100 student organizations will have displays and booths, and a variety of entertainment will be presented. Sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board.

  • Sunday, Aug. 29. Freshman Engineering Picnic. 4 p.m. Vawter Field, east of the Recreational Sports Center.

  • Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 30 and 31. "Talk to My Professors? Who Me?" a workshop to help students with disabilities sponsored by Adaptive Programs, an division of the Office of the Dean of Students. 3:30 p.m. Aug. 30 and 3 p.m. Aug. 31 in Student Services Annex 1.

  • Monday-Friday, Aug. 30-Sept. 3. Panhellenic Association plant sales. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union.

    ** Saturday, Sept. 4. Boilermaker Tractor Pull. Time and ticket prices to be announced. Tractor Pull Track.

    ** Tuesday, Sept. 7. Jewish Studies Open House. 4-6 p.m. Anniversary Drawing Room, Purdue Memorial Union. Free, open to the public, and refreshments will be served. The Lafayette Klezmorim will perform traditional Jewish music at 5 p.m.

    ** Wednesday, Sept. 8. New Faculty and Staff Luncheon. Noon, North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union. There will be an information fair after the lunch, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the South Ballroom.

    ** Wednesday, Sept. 8. School of Veterinary Medicine Job Fair. 6-9 p.m. University Inn and Conference Center, 3001 Northwestern Ave, West Lafayette.

    ** Wednesday, Sept. 15. Industrial Roundtable. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Memorial Mall. Purdue Engineering Student Council sponsors this job fair, which attracts more than 8,000 students and 250 companies, making it one of the largest student-run career fairs in the United States. Rain location is the Purdue Armory.

    ** Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 20-21. Department of Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional and Tourism Management Career Day. Events include a job fair from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the South Ballroom of the Memorial Union; a lecture at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Room 218 Stewart Center by the president of the National Restaurant Association; a senior reception from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday at Stone Hall; and a lecture at 2 p.m. Monday in Room 206 Stewart Center by the chairman, president and CEO of Promus Hotel Corp.

    ENTERTAINMENT

  • Friday, Aug. 27. Varsity Glee Club First Nighter free concert. 7:30 p.m. Ballrooms, Purdue Memorial Union. Presented by Purdue Musical Organizations.

    ** Saturday, Aug. 28. Slayter Slammer. Noon. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. Free outdoor concert (bands still to be announced) is presented by Acacia, Delta Delta Delta, Phi Mu and Triangle. Rain location is the Purdue Armory.

    ** Saturday, Sept. 11. Pregame concert by "All-American" Marching Band. 1 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. After the football game against Notre Dame, the band will perform at the Purdue Mall Fountain.

    ** Saturday, Sept. 18. Purdue Bands pregame concerts. Lab Jazz Band at 8:40 a.m., "All-American" Marching Band at 9:40 a.m. Both concerts will be at Slayter Center of Performing Arts. After the football game against Central Michigan, the marching band will perform at the Purdue Mall Fountain.

    ** Sunday, Sept. 19. PMO Varsity Glee Club. 10:30 a.m. worship service at Federated Church, 2400 Sycamore Lane, West Lafayette.

    ** Sunday, Sept. 19. PMO Varsity Glee Club Slayter Hill Concert. 3 p.m. Slayter Center of Performing Arts. Free.
