This calendar lists selected Purdue events during the next five weeks. Events are free and open to the public, except where noted, and all are open to news media coverage. New or updated listings have two asterisks (**). All events in this calendar, plus many others, are listed in Purdue's on-line calendar.

EVENTS

** Sunday, Aug. 15. Older student orientation, 1 p.m. Seattle Beanery, Purdue West Shopping Center. Sponsored by the Span Plan division of the Office of the Dean of Students.

  • Sunday-Thursday, Aug. 15-19. Boiler Gold Rush, a new-student orientation program sponsored by the Office of Admissions. Approximately 2,700 first-time Purdue students will move into residence halls early, participate in campus tours and learn about Purdue traditions.

  • Friday, Aug. 20. Move-in day for most students who will live in Purdue residence halls. Classes will begin Monday, Aug. 23.

    ** Saturday, Aug. 21. Welcoming parade and President's Gala for new students. Parade starts at 6:10 p.m. at Windsor Residence Hall and concludes at Hovde Hall. President Steven C. Beering will welcome the new students at 7 p.m. in the Elliott Hall of Music. Parents are welcome.

  • Sunday, Aug. 22. School of Consumer and Family Sciences student organization fair. Noon-2 p.m. Founders Park. CFS Student Council presents this showcase of CFS clubs.

  • Sunday, Aug. 22. Pre-pharmacy orientation. 1:30-3 p.m. Room 114, Physics Building. Pharmacy Student Council will conduct tours, introduce first-year students to pharmacy organizations.

    ** Tuesday, Aug. 24. Open house at the Recreational Sports Center. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    ** Tuesday, Aug. 24. School of Agriculture Ice Cream Social. 6:30 p.m. Lilly Hall of Life Sciences Lawn.

    ** Thursday, Aug. 26. Black Cultural Center Boilerfest. 4 p.m. Black Cultural Center, 1100 Third St. Open house for new students will provide food, music and information.

    ** Friday, Aug. 27. Main Event and Activities Carnival. 10 a.m.-1 a.m. Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. More than 100 student organizations will have displays and booths, and a variety of entertainment will be presented. Sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board.

    ** Sunday, Aug. 29. Freshman Engineering Picnic. 4 p.m. Vawter Field, east of the Recreational Sports Center.

    ** Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 30 and 31. "Talk to My Professors? Who Me?" a workshop to help students with disabilities sponsored by Adaptive Programs, an division of the Office of the Dean of Students. 3:30 p.m. Aug. 30 and 3 p.m. Aug. 31 in Student Services Annex 1.

    ** Monday-Friday, Aug. 30-Sept. 3. Panhellenic Association plant sales. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. North Ballroom, Purdue Memorial Union.

  • Friday, Aug. 27. Varsity Glee Club First Nighter free concert. 7:30 p.m. Ballrooms, Purdue Memorial Union. Presented by Purdue Musical Organizations.

  • Wednesday, Aug. 25. Purdue Theatre. 7 p.m. Experimental Theatre, Stewart Center. For students from all schools and disciplines who are interested in live theatrical production. Meet professors and graduate students, sign up to work on crews, learn about audition dates.
